서소문밖 역사유적지 현상설계
지ㆍ문 TerraㆍPorta
대상지인 서소무 공원은 오래된 아픈 기억이 깊이 배어든 곳이다. 묻혀있던 장소의 기억들을 이 땅에 다시 새기어 현재의 사람들이 이를 경험하고 느낄 수 있는 공간을 계획하고자 하였다.
서소문밖 역사유적지에서 땅은 하나의 경계가 된다. 땅 위가 현재의 공간이라면, 그 아래는 과거의 공간이 된다. 땅 위가 속(俗)의 공간이라면, 그 아래는 성(聖)의 공간이 된다. 땅 위가 일상의 공간이라면, 그 아래는 기념의 공간이 된다.
땅 위의 녹지. 그 아래 광장과 기둥의 풍경. 낮게 솟은 흙벽. 광장을 향해 열린 문. 땅 아래의 성당. 성소를 보호하려는 듯 성당을 안은 전시관.
지상에서 지하로의 여정은 오래된 기억을 더듬어 나가는 과정이자 신을 만나러 가는 길이며, 순교의 아픔을 나누는 시간이다.
과거 서소문은 시체가 나가는 시구문으로 삶과 죽음의 경계를 이루던 장소였고, 산 자는 죽은 자가 되어 그 경계를 넘었다. 새롭게 조성되는 서소문 밖의 역사유적지는 ‘삶과 죽음’, ‘성과 속’, ‘열림과 닫힘’, ‘과거와 현재’, ‘기념성과 일상성’, ‘종교와 역사’라는 대비되는 듯 하지만 함께 공존하는 영역들을 넘나드는 문으로 재해석된다.
The site, Seosomun Park, is a historic place with heartbreaking memories for Korean. The project, Terra·Porta, intends to recollect and engrave the memories in this meaningful place.
Here in Seosomun-bakk historic site, terra becomes a boundary. If the aboveground is filled with the present, the belowground is embedded with the past. If the aboveground belongs to mundanity, the counterpart belongs to sanctity. If the aboveground is a place for everyday life, the belowground is a place for commemoration.
Park green. Colonnades in the forum below. Earth walls humble. Portas open to forum. Cathedral belowground. Exhibition embracing and protecting the cathedral.
The journey from above to below the ground is a process of recollecting past memories, a path to God, time for sharing pains of martyrdom.
In the past, Seosomun was called the corpse’s gate, a place of border between life and death. Now the new Seosomun-bakk historic site is reinterpreted as a porta of contradicting but coexisting notions of ‘life and death’, ‘mundanity and sanctity’, open and closed’, past and present’, ‘monumentality and everydayness’, ‘religion and history,’
